Equipment and Tool Pre-Use Inspection Standard Operating Procedure

Objective:

To ensure that all operators at Hughes Safety Showers Ltd. follow a standardized process for checking the fitness for purpose of equipment and tools before use. Additionally, this procedure emphasizes the importance of de-energising electrical and air-powered equipment and tools before making any modifications.

Scope:

This SOP applies to all employees, contractors, and visitors who may operate equipment and tools at Hughes Safety Showers Ltd. premises or during company- related activities.

Responsibilities:

All operators are responsible for:

  1. Conducting pre-use inspections of equipment and tools.
  2. Ensuring that equipment and tools are fit for purpose.
  3. Promptly reporting any damaged or defective equipment.
  4. Properly de-energising electrical and air-powered equipment before any

modifications.

Procedure:

Pre-Use Inspection of Equipment and Tools:

a. Prior to using any equipment or tool, operators must visually inspect it for any signs of damage, wear, or malfunction.

b. If any defects or issues are observed during the inspection, operators must not use the equipment or tool and report the problem to their supervisor or maintenance personnel.

Ensuring Fitness for Purpose:

a. Operators must ensure that the equipment and tools they plan to use are appropriate for the specific task.

b. Check if the equipment or tool has been calibrated or maintained as required.

c. Review the equipment’s user manual or guidelines if necessary.

De-Energising Electrical and Air-Powered Equipment:

a. Before making

b. Modifications should be carried out following manufacturer guidelines or approved procedures.

c. Any modifications that may impact equipment safety or operation must be reviewed and approved by a qualified person or supervisor.

Post-Use Inspection:

a. After using the equipment or tools, operators must inspect them again for any signs of wear, damage, or potential issues.
