GENERAL

1.1

PURPOSE

This equipment Tag numbering procedure details the structure of tag numbering that needs to be followed to maintain consistency in Qatargas (QG) operated facilities.

It will minimize conflicts and ambiguity, thus ensuring a reliable plant operations and maintenance.

This procedure shall be implemented in conjunction with Qatargas procedure PRJ-PJL- PRC-005 - Facilities System and Unit Number Codes and Descriptions, and with procedure PRJ-PJL-PRC-080 - AIMS TAG Management Procedure.

1.2

SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to all Qatargas facilities, including new greenfield projects built within all Qatargas.

Modifications to upstream facilities of QG-1 (Onshore/Offshore) shall continue to use the tagging structure as per the upstream numbering procedure 02.50.07.12. The contents of this old procedure (02.50.07.12) are added to this procedure in Section-3, which is applicable for QG-1 Upstream facilities.

The soft calculations and logics in DCS, PLC’s derived from field equipment tags which do not fall under the applications mentioned in section 2.1 need not follow this tag numbering philosophy. Examples: DCS, PLC internal calculation blocks, internal memory tags etc.

For the ICS Security Equipment, all the Greenfield projects shall follow the new Tagging convention added to this procedure in Section-4.

Exceptions

Tag numbers in existing Facilities: the addition of tag numbers in existing facilities shall follow the projects specific tag structure of the existing facilities for the future modifications.

Tag numbers in existing South Facilities: due to the differences in numbering systems between QG North and QG South, QG South facilities will continue to use their specific assets project specifications for the addition of tag numbers into the existing QG South facilities.

Ras Laffan Terminal Operations (RLTO): Tag numbering of facilities operated by RLTO, built by other companies and handed-over to Qatargas shall continue to use projects specific tag structure for the future modifications. For new greenfield projects in RLTO this tag numbering philosophy shall be used.

Lack of consistency in equipment numbers may lead to time delays in locating the equipment, related documents, maintenance history, etc. This may adversely affect the overall efficiency of operations, maintenance and engineering day to day activities.

If projects do not follow Qatargas guidelines on equipment numbering from early stage of project, there might be tag conflicts and ambiguity at the advanced stage of the project. Conflicts and inconsistencies detected at advanced stage of project may results in huge cost and time delay.

2 DESCRIPTION OF DOCUMENT CONTENT

Explains the structure of tag number to be followed to maintain consistency in Qatargas operated facilities.

2.1 DEFINITION OF TAG NUMBER

Tag number is a unique identification reference of an entity (equipment, instrument or function) within the Qatargas operated facilities.

Unique tag number is required in following (but not limited to) purposes,

 Required for unique reference in Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).  Required for unique reference in SAP for maintenance management and in permit

to work system.

 Required as unique

Identification of Equipment’s (Mechanical, Electrical, Instruments, Fire & Gas, and Telecommunication) and monitoring & control functions.

This Equipment Numbering Philosophy shall be applicable to all physical equipments and the functions (logics) which need to be referred by unique identification numbers for the purposes mentioned above.



 

Examples of physical items: Pumps, Compressors, Transformers, Valves, Panels etc. Examples of functions (soft tags): Shutdown functions-UZ, DCS logics- UY, etc. Project need to ensure same tag numbers are used in field, F&G System and in all documentation. Mismatch of tags usage between field/ system/documentation leads to confusion, hence such mismatches are not acceptable.

No trailing spaces are allowed within the tag number structure.

2.3.2.6 Indented Equipment Class

One to three characters, codes in Appendix 3 - Equipment Classes are used to designate indented equipment classification including drivers’ equipment class.

2.3.2.7 Heater Identification

This column is only used with “H” when identifying heaters of auxiliary equipment, such as lube oil tank heater, space heater of auxiliary motors.

2.3.2.8 Sequence Number

Indented equipment items having different services within an equipment class for a given of equipment shall be differentiated with a numeric designator (1 through 9). The sequence number shall be omitted if there is only one (1) item within that equipment class.

2.3.2.9 Main Service/Standby or Spare Designator

Indented equipment services having primary and spare items shall be differentiated using alpha characters A, B, C etc.

EXISTING QATARGAS 1 UPSTREAM FACILITIES (ONLY FOR MINOR BROWN FIELD CHANGES) This section is only applicable for the tag numbering during the minor brownfield modifications in the existing QG1 upstream facilities. Minor modification works in this area need not follow the tag structure detailed in previous sections and can follow the tag structures detailed below in this section. Equipment identification (Tag) numbers shall be listed by Project Code, Unit, Equipment Serial number, and/or alphabetical order. However, drive units shall be listed immediately after the item of equipment they drive.

3.2.5 SECONDARY IDENTIFIER

One digit - Items of equipment installed in parallel or in series shall bear the same Equipment Serial Number followed by an additional letter by A, B, C, etc. to differentiate them. ‘S’ shall be used to designate spare. Refer below for examples.
