1 GENERAL

1.1 PURPOSE

This equipment Tag numbering procedure details the structure of tag numbering that needs to be followed to maintain consistency in QatarEnergy LNG operated facilities.

It will minimize conflicts and ambiguity, thus ensuring a reliable plant operations and maintenance.

This procedure shall be implemented in conjunction with QatarEnergy LNG procedure PRJ-PJL-PRC-005 - Facilities System and Unit Number Codes and Descriptions, and PRJ- PJL-PRC-080 - AIMS TAG Management Procedure.

1.2 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to all QatarEnergy LNG facilities, including new greenfield projects built within all QatarEnergy LNG.

The soft calculations and logics in DCS, PLCs derived from field equipment tags which do not fall under the applications mentioned in section 2.1 need not follow this tag numbering philosophy. Examples: DCS, PLC internal calculation blocks, internal memory tags etc.

For the ICS Security Equipment, all the Greenfield projects shall follow the new Tagging convention described in Section 3.

All the tags (brownfield and greenfield projects) shall be reserved/verified as per AIMS Tag Management Procedure PRJ-PJL-PRC-080, prior to utilization in any drawings or P&IDs.

FEED tags under greenfield scope are considered temporary. Re-tagging of these FEED tags to be carried out during the EPC phase in accordance with the latest approved procedure. FEED tags under brownfield scope can be reserved in Tag Management System to avoid same tags used in other projects and the reserved FEED tags will be verified (Activated) during the EPC phase in accordance with applicable numbering procedure. If Long lead Item (LLI) cannot be retagged during EPC, those tags should be reserved and verified in Tag Management System before issue of purchase orders.

All existing facilities shall continue to use project specification tag structure for the future modifications (Brownfield projects) to maintain the consistency of the drawings within the same asset. Refer to Section 4 for more details.

1.3 CRITICALITY

This Procedure has been determined to be a Medium Criticality document.

2.1 DEFINITION OF TAG NUMBER

Tag number is a unique identification reference of an entity (equipment, instrument or function) within the QatarEnergy LNG operated facilities.

Unique tag number is required in following (but not limited to) purposes,  Required for unique reference in Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).  Required for unique reference in SAP for maintenance management and in permit

to work system.

 Required as unique

Identification of Equipment’s (Mechanical, Electrical, Instruments, Fire & Gas, and Telecommunication) and monitoring & control functions.

This Equipment Numbering Philosophy shall be applicable to all physical equipments and the functions (logics) which need to be referred by unique identification numbers for the purposes mentioned above.





Examples of physical items: Pumps, Compressors, Transformers, Valves, Panels etc. Examples of functions (soft tags): Shutdown functions-UZ, DCS logics- UY, etc.

Project need to ensure same tag numbers are used in field, F&G System and in all documentation. Mismatch of tags usage between field/ system/documentation leads to confusion, hence such mismatches are not acceptable.

Note:  No trailing spaces are allowed within the tag number structure. 

Engineering and Governance team should be consulted if there is any ambiguity.

4 OTHER EQUIPMENT NUMBERING SPECIFICATIONS

4.1 EQUIPMENT NUMBERING SPECIFICATION FOR EXISTING ASSET

All existing QatarEnergy LNG facilities in operation before Go-Live of Tag Management system in 2021 shall continue to use projects specification tag structure for the future modifications (Brownfield project) to maintain the consistency of the drawings within the same asset.

List of project specification applicable for existing assets is listed but not limited to Appendix 7 - LIST OF PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS FOR REFERENCE.

Guidelines on Usage of Portfolio Asset Names and Abbreviations is detailed in Appendix 8.

4.2 EQUIPMENT NUMBERING SPECIFICATION FOR NFE-1 AND NFS

NFE-1 Onshore Project and NFS Onshore Project are exempted from the use of this procedure and will follow Project specification for equipment numbering as per decision records MPDR- NFXP-2021-0026 and MPDR-NFSONS-2023-023 respectively.
