INTRODUCTION
1.1
OBJECTIVES OF THE DOCUMENT
This Specification covers a set of standards relating to the packing, preservation, marking and shipping documentation of GOODS provided by SUPPLIERs from its premises up to the final destination. These standards are the minimum requirements to be complied by the SUPPLIER for the packing, protection, marking and shipping documents of GOODS. This instruction has been prepared to assure the packing quality and to confirm the minimum requirements of Code & Standards.
1.2
AREA OF APPLICATION
The present Specification SHALL be applied to the GOODS procured by the PURCHASER. The following guidelines and instructions, showed in the present Specification, SHALL be considered as an integral part of:
(cid:120) RFQ (Requests for quotation). (cid:120) PO issued by the PURCHASER to the SUPPLIERs.
The guidelines stated in the present Specification, SHALL be considered as the minimum requirements. If the instructions stated in the present Specification would be considered incomplete, the SUPPLIER SHALL take1 any additional measures2 MAY BE required to ensure that SUPPLIER’S obligations and responsibilities are fulfilled. The PURCHASER SHALL reserve the right to instruct SUPPLIER on additional packing features, if necessary.
Any additional activities may incur due to SUPPLIER non-compliance with present Specification instructions, SHALL be at SUPPLIER costs and care, including any necessary recovery action to ensure prompt (on schedule) shipment and the issuance of clean on board transportation documents (bill of lading, etc.).
The SUPPLIER SHALL be accountable for all damages due to improper packing. Before proceeding with the packing of the GOODS, SUPPLIER shall immediately communicate 3 to PURCHASER any identified conflicts between the requirements stated in the present Specification and any other PO related documents.

DEFINITION, ABBREVIATIONS AND ACRONYMS
(cid:120) DELIVERY TERMS are referred to International standard delivery terms (INCOTERMS 2010) that define the transfer of title of GOODS and the responsibilities of each party in the agreement. The PURCHASE ORDER details the Delivery Terms under which the SUPPLIER is obligated to deliver the GOODS.
(cid:120) FREIGHT FORWARDER means a person or persons, firm or company (International Transportation Company or Third Party Logistics Service Company) that has undertaken to perform the transport services from SUPPLIER’s contractual delivery point to the SITE.
(cid:120) GOODS means all equipment, materials, articles or any other property or parts to be provided to the PURCHASER by the SUPPLIER under the PURCHASER ORDER DOCUMENTS and in addition includes the relevant documentation listed in the PURCHASER ORDER DOCUMENTS.
(cid:120) MAY BE used in the present Specification to suggest a possible solution.
(cid:120) PACKAGE (or Packaging or Packing Unit) means any outside container such as a box, crate, barrel,
drum, bundle or other such facility used to enclose or protect the items in transit and/or storage.
(cid:120) PACKING means all the activities related to the preparation, preservation and protection of the GOODS purchased, in order to prevent loss or damage along the transport chain (by road, rail, air or ocean) and storage for a minimum of 12 months after date of packing.
(cid:120) PACKING LIST means prospect bearing the package identification data (number, marking, weight size
and characteristic) together with ones about the items it contains.
(cid:120) PROJECT means the project in which GOODS are to be used by PURCHASER and/or by
PURCHASER’s client.
(cid:120) PURCHASE ORDER DOCUMENTS means all the documents related to PURCHASE ORDER including the PURCHASE ORDER itself, this Specification and any other document referred to in the PURCHASE ORDER.
(cid:120) PURCHASE ORDER means the written agreement between PURCHASER and SUPPLIER for the
performance of the SUPPLY including any written amendment thereof.
(cid:120) PURCHASER means the person so named in the PURCHASE ORDER.
(cid:120) SERVICES means technical assistance services and any all services including design, inspection, testing, training, expediting, quality assurance and control, painting, packing, delivery and installation or fixing, in connection to the GOODS, a specified or required under the PURCHASE ORDER DOCUMENTS.
(cid:120) SHALL used in the present Specification to express an obligation to do something.
(cid:120) SHOULD used in the present Specification to propose a proper alternative solution.
(cid:120) SITE means all the locations or areas where the PROJECT is performed.
(cid:120) SUPPLIER means the person appointed by PURCHASER to perform the SUPPLY and so named in the
PURCHASE ORDER.
(cid:120) SUPPLY means the delivery of the GOODS and the performance of the SERVICES specified in the PURCHASE ORDER, to be carried out by the SUPPLIER in accordance with Terms and Conditions of the PURCHASE ORDER DOCUMENTS.

Packing is mainly requested to protect/preserve the GOODS from damage during transportation, including multiple-handling and storage. All the GOODS SHALL be shipped in suitable PACKING UNITS for

preservation of them from weather and marine environment (corrosion, rain, moisture, etc.) 4 conditions. Hereinafter some general features for the packing:
(cid:120) Packing construction SHALL be carried out in accordance with the most up-to-date methods, standards and rules. As a minimum requirement, applicable rules shall be referred to departure and destination countries as well as at the transit countries.
(cid:120) The packing SHALL be suitable to withstand loading, transit, unloading and handlings as per
environmental conditions from the point of departure to the final delivery point.
(cid:120) The GOODS SHALL be properly fastened inside the package in order to prevent displacements, rotations or vibrations during transport. Heavy GOODS5 SHALL be fastened to the package by proper bolting.
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER SHALL attaches, to the final package, three (3) copies of special instructions covering in detail: proper care, maintenance and on SITE storage procedures for the GOODS. Moreover these instructions SHALL be duly submitted to the PURCHASER prior to shipment.
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER is solely accountable for proper packing, marking and preservation of the GOODS with regards to handling, transport, transhipment and storage at the final destination. The SUPPLIER SHALL be fully liable for the provision of:
o Sufficient and adequate packing and protection of contents for an open yard storage6. o Completeness of contents. o Correct preparation of the packing list and other related shipping documents.
SUPPLIER shall be considered accountable of inadequate or insufficient packing or shipping documentation, being charged of any related extra-cost may incur.
(cid:120) The application of suitable packing methods, (including relative materials and manpower) SHALL be at the sole SUPPLIER responsibility. In case of damages or loss due to inappropriate packing, noticed at delivery point (and/or at transit points), the GOODS SHALL be replaced or repaired at SUPPLIER’s expense.
PACKING GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
4.1
PACKAGE RELATED TO GOODS CLASSIFIED DUAL USE
Some commodities are classified as Dual Use GOODS, meaning they may be used for civilian or commercial activities as well as for Military Applications. The Dual Use classification derives from the technical specification of the product contained within the Regulations relating to dual use in force in the countries where the export takes place and within the Customs Nomenclature. The Dual Use commodities could be subject to additional inspection by Customs Authorities therefore, in order to minimize any possible delays, they SHALL be packed separately and segregated, whenever possible, from all other non-dual use items. The SUPPLIER is accountable for notifying to CONTRACTOR the presence of dual use items, submitting the relevant technical documents and information, such as the Dual Use codes/references, necessary to ask for and obtain the export licenses from the competent Governmental Authorities.
4.2
GENERAL NOTES FOR PACKING
In general, packing SHALL be suitable for shipping GOODS by any means of transport such as sea 7 freight, airfreight, road or railway. The following table indicate the acceleration forces depending on the mode of transport.

Packing of the GOODS SHALL be provided taking in consideration of the following key factors: (cid:120) Protection requirements. (cid:120) Hygroscopic properties. (cid:120) Means of transport to be used for shipping. (cid:120) Transport route and duration8. (cid:120) Anti-corrosion precautionary requirements. (cid:120) Climatic conditions at final destination. (cid:120) Centre of gravity and weight issues.
Loading, stuffing and lashing the GOODS into containers SHALL be included in SUPPLIER scope. In general, all equipment and relative materials should be packed in closed wooden frame box.
Packaging shall be suitable to preserve the GOODS, for at least 12 months, after date of packing as general rule. SUPPLIER SHALL be accountable to provide PURCHASER all the necessary instructions for storage and preservation. SUPPLIER SHALL be accountable of any damages due to wrong or missing instructions and documentation.
4.3
PACKING SIZES AND TYPE NOTES
The SUPPLIER SHALL be accountable for the packing and handling of the GOODS (to the PO delivery point), as per contractual delivery terms. GOODS to be divided in two below main groups on the basis of below dimensions and weight:

(cid:120) Notes On Containerized Cargo (ISO Containers)
ISO Containers are NOT considered as packing but are classified as mean of transport (as a mode of dispatching the GOODS). As a consequence the usage of ISO containers does not relieve SUPPLIER from its responsibility to provide suitable packing as specified in the present Specification.

In addition the following requirements have to be considered when GOODS are stowed into ISO-Containers at the SUPPLIER premises:
The containers must be in good and sound general condition 10. Shipper Owned Container (S.O.C.) or Carrier Owned Containers (C.O.C.) SHALL be used with written approval by PURCHASER. Shipper Owned Containers (S.O.C.) SHALL have a valid C.S.C. homologation (as per IMO’s CSC Standard), for a minimum of 12 (twelve) months, after date of packing, certified by Lloyd or any other the C.S.C. homologation applicable number/certificate to PURCHASER. Stowing, lashing and securing of the GOODS inside containers must be executed by SUPPLIER as per IMO’s CTU Standard.

If cargo of various sizes and weights is stowed together, overall PACKING UNITS stability shall be properly provided/improved. If cases or crates are stacked in several layers, the layer below must be able to withstand the total weight of the items stacked above.
If the cargo is loaded in open top containers or flat racks, the packaging must protect the GOODS from climate, weather conditions, handling and transhipments, during the main transport.
With regard to container loading, the following principles should be observed:

Total11 cargo weight SHALL not exceed the container allowable pay load. Volume optimization; SUPPLIER SHALL use best efforts to optimize the volume of each container, in accordance with applicable standards and regulation. Stowage into the container should be compact (as shown in pictures below). Cargo securing must be provided in order to mitigate the effects of ship movements, such as rolling, pitching and yawing. The best way of securing cargo is to distribute it without any gaps over the entire floor. If gaps cannot be avoid, the space between the packaging and container walls must be filled using air bags, dunnage or other suitable stowage material. Individual cargo parts that do not fill up the floor must be secured by chocking and lashing. Lashing eyes are provided on the longitudinal beams on the floor, roof and corner posts. In case of pre-carriage by rail, special stuffing and lashing requirements of the rail operator(s) needed to be adopted (if any).

4.4
PREPARATION OF THE GOODS FOR PACKING
The GOODS SHALL be prepared for packing purpose, in order to avoid any possible stresses during transportation. According to the selected type of means of transport, storage conditions and type of GOODS, this section shows the main guidelines to be followed by SUPPLIER before packing.
In general, all the surfaces of the GOODS to be packed SHALL be dry, clean and free from defects or production residues prior to packing. All threaded areas SHALL be adequately greased and shielded from mechanical damages. All machined surfaces SHALL be coated with an industry standard rust protection product, suitable for the requested application. All internals parts of machinery SHALL be treated with lubricants (rust preventatives) and oxidation inhibitors to protect the equipment from possible damages. Such protective materials SHALL be compatible with those that will be subsequently used in service. Any part that may be damaged by lifting, fastening, transportation and installation SHALL be removed and packaged in accordance with present Specification. All temporary supports and/or bracings and/or devices required for transporting or lifting SHALL be painted with a special colour for immediate identification.
In the next articles are listed the main activities that SHALL be provided (if applicable) concerning the preparations of the GOODS for packing.
4.4.1
Partial Dismantling
Dismantling of the GOODS may be necessary in order to: (cid:120) Allow or simplify the handling of the GOODS. (cid:120) Minimize the volume to be packaged, as well as shipped12. (cid:120) Protect fragile components. (cid:120) Avoid damage to the packaging.
GOODS may only be dismantled by SUPPLIER. Dismantling SHALL always subject to PURCHASER approval, in this case packing list shall be provided in both alternatives (dismantled and mounted).
4.4.2
Padding Of Fragile Parts
Some types of GOODS MAY be subject to high mechanical stresses during transport. These types 13 of GOODS SHALL be protected by damages through impacts, jolts or vibrations by the use of suitable padding.
4.4.3
Securing Movable Parts
Free14 parts must be secured by lashing down or using wedges and pads. These must be fixed to the main item before packaging. In case disassembled parts are not packed separately, they must be padded and firmly fixed to the main item or inside the packing.
4.4.4 Cleaning
The GOODS to be packed SHALL be free of manufacturing aids, production scrap metal and any possible corrosive material. Any holding liquids system (or equipment) must be purged before packing. Containers and piping systems SHALL be dried and hermetically closed. The SUPPLIER SHALL inform PURCHASER of the presence of such remaining liquids and their quantity.

If SUPPLIER provided any anti-corrosion measures for the transport, PURCHASER SHALL be informed accordingly regarding the brand and type of used protection.
4.4.5
Primary Preservation
The GOODS SHALL be protected by corrosion during the transit. All equipment and materials and/or relative parts subject to corrosion, including machined parts, SHALL be coated with a proper rust preventative. All internal parts of machinery SHALL be treated with lubricant containing rust oxidation inhibitors to protect equipment from damages. Such lubricants SHALL be compatible with those that will subsequently be used in service and SHALL be identified by appropriate tagging. A “list of all lubricant and rust preventative” and “datasheet for anti-corrosion inhibitors” SHALL be provided with the packing list prior to shipment. Very fragile parts will be treated in their surface with suitable protective material, which cannot be washed off or crystallized by temperature changes, such as Tectyl, Rust-ban type or similar. The same protection may apply in case of sea shipment of stainless steel equipment (that are not painted).
4.4.6 Protection of Openings
(cid:120) Flanged openings for pressure vessels, reactors, heat exchangers, etc. SHALL be protected with bolted- on outside plywood (minimum 12 mm thick 4 bolts) with rubber gaskets between the flange and the plate. All flanged openings SHALL be wrapped with plastic waterproof tape. (cid:120) Butt weld connections SHALL be sealed with metal or heavy plastic cap. 4.4.7 Flexible Connection and Small Loose Parts
(cid:120) All flexible connections that could be subject to possible damage during shipment SHALL be
disconnected and either tied to the main body or packed in separate boxes within the main package.
(cid:120) Shaft Coupling:
o Flexible couplings SHALL be taken off and adequately supported and protected to prevent damage; o Rigid coupling SHALL be in accordance with the SUPPLIER’s recommendation to provide full
protection and safety in transit and storage.
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER SHALL fix to the external of the package, on metal label, a list of the specific rust preventatives employed. The list SHALL include internal as well as external used rust preventatives with: name of the manufacturer, type number, and the locations where each product has been applied.
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER SHALL also include in the package any special instructions deemed necessary for the removal or replacement of any rust preventatives, together with any special precautions to be taken to protect the equipment during storage period.
(cid:120) Small or sophisticated parts of instruments and electric equipment SHALL be packed in waterproof wooden boxes and attention SHALL be made to prevent damage from moisture as well vibration during the transportation.
(cid:120) If packages/ GOODS contains, vapour phase inhibiting oil, vapour phase inhibiting powder or silica gel, used to protect all internal metallic surfaces of equipment that are subject to corrosion. The type and quantity of them SHALL be clearly stated outside the equipment.

o unpainted machined metal surfaces. o gasket contact surfaces of equipment flanges. o other surfaces which are normally not painted, both external and internal.
SHALL be cleaned, dried and coated with acceptable rust preventatives which will maintain a protective coating, for a minimum of 12 months, after date of packing.
(cid:120) Regarding bulk materials (e.g. pipes, tube, flange, fitting, valve and etc.), the SUPPLIER SHALL propose the rust preventative which will maintain a protective coating for minimum twelve (12) months after date of packing.
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER SHALL be fully liable to guarantee proper, sufficient and adequate rust preventative. (cid:120) All cost whatever resulting from inadequate or insufficient rust prevention SHALL be fully charged to
SUPPLIER.
(cid:120) The use of lubricants such as engine machine oils is strictly prohibited.
4.4.9 Spare Parts
Commissioning and erection spares SHALL be individually tagged and marked as “Commissioning Spare Parts” or “Erection Spare Parts” and SHALL be packed separated from the prime item(s) into separate inner boxes.
Spare Parts for TWO years operation SHALL be marked and tagged individually, covered with a suitable corrosion preservatives, wrapped with greased paper and packed into separate inner boxes separately from the prime item(s)
(cid:120) The boxes shall report the markings as specified and in addition with the words- “SPARE PARTS FOR TWO YEARS OPERATION”. The tag number of the spare part(s) SHALL be described in the packing list as an identification number to be recognized at the SITE.
(cid:120) The purpose of tagging is to identify each equipment, materials, parts, tools, etc. shipped as cargo with the packing list and/or drawings. After filling necessary descriptions required in the format, the tag SHALL be attached to all individual equipment, material parts, tool, etc. (see attachment 14.8).
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER’s own tag form is acceptable subject to the PURCHASER’s prior approval with regard to
identification. Tags SHALL be filled out with ball-point pen in black with minimum information: o shipping tag number o PO number o project number.
An adequate quantity of moisture absorbent SHALL be added to protect the contents from corrosion for 12 months after the date of packing.
(cid:120) For Packages/ Instrumented Skids:
o All loose parts shipped along with the main equipment, and its related auxiliary equipment (e.g. mechanical seals, level transmitters, flow meters, anti-surge system, etc.), must be packed separately by each discipline (mechanical, piping, electrical, instrument and etc.). Accordingly, the relevant discipline for each loose part SHALL be mentioned for easy identification and material control in the packing list for the effective execution of installation.
o If small in quantity, all loose part may be packaged by separate rigid box or partition in the box. o When the same materials will be used for several units, they must be packed separately by the unit for
the effective material control on SITE.
4.4.10 Other Instructions
(cid:120) All the parts subject to corrosion and other fragile parts must be wrapped into suitable foil with added
drying agent, and packed into wooden boxes.
(cid:120) The GOODS in boxes must be supported and secured against shifting and sliding which might result from sharp buffeting load and similar. Heavy parts such as motors and generators SHALL be securely

fastened to the load-bearing member of bottom of the package by bolts. Anchorage of the GOODS to the PACKAGE SHALL be provided in order to prevent “slipping” and “tipping”.
(cid:120) The steel plates have to be lined with suitable cushion material to avoid scrubbing of the paint or prime
coating.
(cid:120) Sensitive pipes due to material, wall thickness, surface treatment, etc., must be bundled and packed in
wooden boxes.
(cid:120) All material SHALL be dry, clean and free from all defects, prior to packing protection against environmental corrosion/erosion caused by humidity, condensation, rain, dust, sand, salted air, and sea spray.
(cid:120) All threaded areas SHALL be adequately greased and covered with adequate protective shield to protect
mechanical damage.
(cid:120) Where twisting, bending or braking MAY happens due to mechanical transport loads, the GOODS must be supported or braced to make them suitable for a safety transport and/or disassembled by the SUPPLIER.
INTERNAL PACKAGING
Internal packaging purpose is to protect GOODS and/or equipment from shocks, weathering and environmental agents, preventing any damage of its contents or loss during transport. In addition, the packing must withstand the various handling operations from collection up to the delivery point, taking into account the inland transport conditions from the entry ports to the final destination. A proper communication between the SUPPLIER and PURCHASER is required in order to pack the GOODS using the most suitable packaging. The following information will be required in order to define the most suitable packaging for each type of GOODS:
(cid:120) GOODS features: type, size, number of units, mobile at loose parts.
(cid:120) Packaging features: dimensions, type of base, type of jacking, type of latch.
(cid:120) Features of the material to be used, physical/chemical and mechanical protection etc..
(cid:120) Means of transport.
(cid:120) Detail of the transport routing.
(cid:120) Details of warehousing.
(cid:120) Marking instructions.
(cid:120) Other data or attached documents.
During transport (especially during overseas shipping), handling and storage of the GOODS may be exposed to intensive stresses such as rain, sea water, high air humidity and salt content, extreme temperatures, temperature fluctuation, chemical and biological agents, etc. The type and intensity of these stresses will depend on the transport routing, transit duration, interim storage and the properties of the packaged GOODS. Additional anti-corrosion measures will be required to protect the GOODS by all of these external environmental factors. The SUPPLIER must inform the PURCHASER about the GOODS inclination to corrosion and which measures are required in order to preserve the GOODS properties. The packaging provider must also be advised if preliminary protection has already been applied and if so, whether this will have to be removed prior to packing. The SUPPLIER SHALL guarantee that the preliminary protections measures do not have any impact on the GOODS to be transported. The selected preservation method has to take into account the features of GOODS to be transported. Three methods may be applied for preservation of GOODS to be packed:

(cid:120) Use of protective PE foil films.

(cid:120) Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) method.
5.1 ALUMINUM FOIL AND DESICCANTS
According to MIL PRF-131 K and MIL D3464, flexible barrier material enclosure (with desiccants), are used to protect the packaged GOODS against air humidity during transport and stowage in order to prevent corrosion by mould and similar. The use of the flexible barrier material enclosure (waterproof packing), may consist of an operation aimed to create technical “vacuum” protecting sensitive GOODS against oxidation. The GOODS SHALL be anchored to the packing; spring lock and washers should be applied at the anchoring points at the holes made for passage of the bolts. Sheets of rubber foam material alternatively may be used. Out of gauge parts and sharp edges SHALL be properly padded to prevent wearing through or piercing of the enclosure. The air inside the barrier enclosure shall be exhausted, by extracting the air supply of moisture is decreased. Once the air is expelled, the barrier enclosure is welded. The drying of the remaining air inside the flexible barrier enclosure, is achieved by desiccants or moisture absorbers according to DIN 55473 or MIL D 3464 D. The required desiccants quantity shall be calculated in accordance with DIN 55474, or MIL P 116 E, for a maximum permissible ultimate humidity of 40%. The desiccants bags shall be placed in the upper section of the barrier enclosure and properly secured against falling. Direct contact between desiccant and packed goods is not allowed. The required amount of desiccants must be calculated in accordance with DIN 55474 or MIL P 116 E. The sealed film enclosure consists on vapour barrier material. Single sheets SHALL be heat-sealed together for Oversize/Overweight cargo. Desiccants must be placed or hung inside the package in such a manner, that contact to surface of the material to be packed is avoided at all times.
5.2
PROTECTIVE COATINGS
Protective coating SHALL be applied after cleaning and drying surfaces of the GOODS to be packaged. A suitable coating product has to be applied on the surfaces subject to corrosion. These products SHALL be applied by immersion, brushing or spraying. The solvent components will evaporate leaving a solid coating layer. This layer protects against corrosion, such as water and oxygen reaching the metal surface. According to specifications of the product to be applied, it MAY remain active for a few days (in case of pre-or interim preservation) or for several years (final preservation). The removal of protective coatings from the packaged GOODS will be necessary at the end of transport and storage period.
5.3
VCI METHOD (VOLATILE CORROSION INHIBITOR)
The VCI method functions through a vapour phase keeping product in a protective atmosphere inside the sealed protective enclosure. VCI molecules evaporate from the carrier material such as paper, film, foams or powered and saturate the surrounding air. The molecules create a protective film on the layer of oxides that is present on all metal surfaces and inhibit the corrosion processes. A wide range of different VCI film types are existing as they differ in their protection effect on iron and non-iron metals as well as their alloys. Each single active agent is generally suited for only one type of metal or alloy. Therefore, the different agents are usually combined to offer a wider protection range. Prior to packing, consultation with the VCI supplier may be required to exclude a potential reaction with the material of the GOODS. Removal of VCI after unpacking is not required.

- EXTERNAL PACKAGE
6.1
INLAND PACKING (DOMESTIC)
The SUPPLIER must take caution for the packaging of materials, to be sent without intermediate handling and/or transshipment on the same country and/or neighbors. In these cases packaging MAY BE limited to protection of fragile parts. Anyway such kind of packing shall ensure the protection of the GOODS up to the arrival at SITE.
6.2
SEAWORTHY PACKING
The SUPPLIER SHALL provide all the packages to be compact and durable as much as possible. The minimum requested storage time is 12 months after date of packing. All PACKAGES SHALL be suitable to undertake all the external agents along the transportation chain up to (and including) storage at SITE. The PACKAGE design and construction SHALL in particular take into account the following factors:
(cid:120) Handling during loading at the production workshop, unloading at loading at ports, and at SITE for, at
least, 6 times.
(cid:120) Outdoor storage after shipment to SITE. (cid:120) Significant variation in ambient temperature/humidity during ocean shipment and storage. (cid:120) Provisions for supporting and stacking of GOODS (packages) SHALL be included in the basis of package
design and construction.
(cid:120) Packing style and gross weight of over 50 kg. SHALL have minimum 100 mm “under-beams” for forklift
clearance.
(cid:120) Waterproof barrier material SHALL be inserted between upper and lower sheathing of the top panel. (cid:120) “Under-beams” SHALL be provided at the bottom of skid, at height SHALL be minimum 100 mm. Base
skid SHALL be connected with header using bolt.
(cid:120) Equipment/packages exceeding 5,0 tons gross weight SHALL be furnished with a shell plate of adequate thickness on areas where sling ropes and metal surfaces may come into contact with the package, as shown in below picture.
(cid:120) SUPPLIER’s own experience and practice SHALL define any improvements to ensure GOODS safety. Observance of these minimum requirements does not constitute a limitation to SUPPLIER’s full responsibility for the packaging itself.
(cid:120) Each type of GOODS SHALL be packed taking into consideration the following factors:

6.3
PACKING CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
In general GOODS SHALL be packed using wood and/or wood-based products. Other packaging material may be used after prior agreement with the PURCHASER only. Cardboard is accepted only for airfreight shipments. To be remarked that the use of containers does not exclude seaworthy packing requirements.
6.3.1 Wood
The wooden parts must comply with the relevant standards on dimensions and quality:
(cid:120) Softwood: Pine, in any of its various species and spruce.
(cid:120) Hardwood: poplar and eucalyptus are the most frequently used although plane, elm, ash, oak, birch, and
basswood can also be used.
The wood to be used for the construction of the above mentioned structures must be solid and integral, featuring a humidity rate that must not exceed the limit of 20% and an absence of faults that may affect its resistance. The wood/timber to be used must be new, sound and well-seasoned, free from loose knots and decay. The minimum required thickness for PACKAGES15 floor, side and top sheeting is 40 mm.
6.3.1.1 International Export Packing Requirements (Ispm 15)
ISPM15 which stands for International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures for Wood Packaging Material in International Trade. The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures 16, describes the processes of treatment of wood packing materials against pests and enters force via binding national implementations. The IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention), a sister organization of FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN) has agreed a common standard for wood packaging in order to protect native forest from packaging-borne pests and harmonize the import regulations. Any expenses resulting from SUPPLIER’s failure to comply with this standard, when applicable, will be back charged to SUPPLIER. This standard SHALL be applied to solid timber (soft and hard woods) thicker than 6 mm when used as packaging material or for bracing. It is not applicable to timber-based manufactured materials. In case of ISPM15 applicability, involved PACKAGEs have to be marked as shown in the relative attachment to the present Specification at Article n. 16.3. It’s SUPPLIER’s responsibility to assess the applicability of ISPM15 standard in the country involved in the transportation (origin, transit, destination).

6.3.2
Plywood
Plywood is a composite material made of several layers with no more than 3 mm thickness bonded together by means of resins or adhesives applied by roller, spray or roll coverers; they are assembled so that the grain on each ply is at right angles to the adjacent sheet to afford maximum strength in all direction. Plywood used for packaging made of softwoods, eucalypts, pine and spruce.
Sheathing thickness will be determined by type of load, weight of contents, mode of transport, and estimated worst condition to which material will be subjected. The minimum required thickness for side and top sheeting is 8,5 mm.
OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is a panel of a wood-based product made from wood shavings bonded together with synthetic glue, pressed and subjected to specific pressures and temperatures.

There are existing four types of OSB, depending on their mechanical strength and resistance in moist environments: (cid:120) OSB/117: panel for general purpose and indoor use (cid:120) OSB/23: panel for use in dry environments (cid:120) OSB/3: structural panel for use in humid environment (cid:120) OSB/4: high-performance structural panel for use in wet environments In general, the timber must be used minimizing connecting joints. Scrap is not permitted for the composition of commercially available wooden parts. The wooden parts, bigger than commercial ones, can be built by connecting two or more commercial elements but the following instructions must be followed: (cid:120) The connections to be minimized. (cid:120) The connections must be located on load bearing units in order to assure the fixing of the same support
to the two external faces.
(cid:120) The contact of points of connection must be continuous.
6.3.3 Cardboard (flexible box)
Cardboard is a structure made of a central nerve of corrugate paper strengthened on the outside by two layers of paper, glued with adhesive to the crests of the corrugate paper. Cardboard is accepted only for airfreight shipments.
6.4
INSTRUMENTATION AND SUPPORTING TECHNOLOGY
If specifically required by PURCHASER, SUPPLIER shall provide the following additional instruments.
6.4.1 Humidity indicator
Humidity indicators must be used if specifically required.

Tilt & Shock and vibration indicator
Tilt & Shock indicator must be used if specifically required.
6.4.3
Shock Recorder System
The System “Impact Recorder system” performs independent measurements with regards to the environmental conditions and shock data. Its measurements are registered on a hard memory; anyway could be sent in real time through GMS/GPRS connection.
PACKING STYLES AND CONSTRUCTION FEATURES
In order to properly design the packages, the type of load to which they MAY be subject to throughout all phases 18 of use and which may also regard storage, handling and transport must be correctly assessed. The packing must be carried out in such a manner that the package absorbs or minimizes the impacts of any external mechanical stress may occur during handling, transportation and storage.

Stackability19 is a key factor in the optimization of all the transportation processes and costs, as a consequence the packing unit must be marked indicating the minimum allowable stacking weight according to below types of loads.
For all the packing unit types (e.g. boxes, cases, crates, steel frames) up to 3,5 m height, the SUPPLIER SHALL provide packing of the GOODS in compliance with below stackability features:

In case GOODS shall be packed in steel frames, such packages SHALL BE designed in order to allow the stackability (i.e. by having the same shape). Anyway SUPPLIER shall agree with PURCHASER the packing design philosophy and others main features.
7.2
TYPES OF PACKING
Packing SHALL be in compliance with the following types: (cid:120) Wooden boxes or boxes covered with plywood panels or OSB 3 (Oriented Strand Board). (cid:120) Crates featuring non-continuous wooden board. (cid:120) Bundle ties with wooden or iron clamps with threaded tie rods. (cid:120) GOODS that have not been packed.
In the next paragraph are detailed these main types of packing with regards to the features and construction.

Boxes SHALL be used for any assembling, machinery or structural components or materials having fragile surfaces, which need mechanical and/or physical and/or-chemical protection. The level of protection to be applied has to be in accordance with the type of equipment.
Boxes/Cases Design Main Features: (cid:120) Base frame longitudinal skid consisting of a load bearing floor of bottom boards, reinforced with
transversal and longitudinal runners and square end walls joists.
(cid:120) Side and end walls must be supported to absorb the stacking loads acting on the roof, the horizontal

Boxes/Cases Main Features: Crates are to be used for fabricated equipment for which the shape or fragility rules out of saddles or bundles. The construction of the base frame SHALL be as per above paragraph “boxes/cases”. Side and end walls and lid sheating shall be made up of non-continuous planking such as boards mounted vertically, with spacing between the boards, but not exceeding the board width.
7.2.3 Bundles
Bundles SHALL be used for GOODS not requiring packaging in a crate or box:
(cid:120) Due to physical/mechanical features of the GOOODS to packaged. (cid:120) When its structure of the products allow grouping (put the single pieces together, in contact). Bundles shall be made using steel bands/strip and cushion (non-combustible material such as polypropylene). Cushion SHALL be placed between the steel band/strip and the material to avoid damage or rusting. The ends of the bundle requiring protection 22, wooden bar SHALL be applied at the ends. The bundles SHALL be secured by threaded rods, nuts and lock-nuts or equivalent so that no parts can slip when the bundled is tilted.

All vessels, tanks, and similar equipment/GOODS without suitable permanent saddles SHALL be supplied and fitted with fabricated shipping saddles (made up in wood or steel23) suitable for withstanding stresses during road, sea and rail transportation. Such kind of saddles SHALL be included in the SUPPLIER’s scope of supply. As a consequence, the SUPPLIER SHALL advise any requirements for saddles, lifting beams or any other special lifting equipment as per to PURCHASER requirements. Special transport equipment (with particular regards to saddles) SHALL be included in the SUPPLIER’s scope, as per below main features:

saddles and relative securing to the item representing GOODS should be designed to withstand dynamic transportation loads (due to accelerations). Proper saddles securing SHALL be provided able to prevent any horizontal, vertical or transverse displacement (and/or rotations) between the cargo and the saddles. saddles SHOULD be approximately symmetrical24 as per centre of gravity of the item. If necessary to load the saddle by of trailers or other jacking equipment at the SUPPLIER’s works, any requirement to prepare the saddle for application of such equipment SHALL be removable (bolt on type). All equipment SHALL be capable of being lifted by overhead crane regardless of the method used to load. saddles SHALL be designed considering that the equipment could be stored during transport phases with the aid of supports/stools. As a consequence the saddles SHALL be dimensioned in order to accommodate both the trailers and the support/tools and the ends SHALL sustain the weight of the equipment. saddle’s height should be minimized in order to reduce overturning momentums. Additional Notes On Saddles The upper part of the ends must allow enough space to position the necessary anchoring elements. The wooden elements must be connected together to ensure that the whole saddle is SHALL be compact. This can be done using passing eyebolts, with metal ribs or other systems suitable for the purpose. The use of wood based panels to cover the saddles can be considered suitable for this purpose.
7.2.5 Unpacked Material
PACKAGE design must be agreed with PURCHASER before dispatch. Such kind of GOODS may allow shipment in unpacked condition (e.g. with no packing). These GOODS SHALL be adequately protected against possible damages by slings or wires. Each unpacked material SHALL be considered as individual package and SHALL be marked and managed accordingly. Each PACKAGE SHALL be provided with a base frame (made up in wood or steel28) and anchors to make the fastening during transport.
7.2.6
Lifting Devices
Where specialised lifting devices, for example a lifting beam or spreader beam, SHALL be required, or is specified by the SUPPLIER, the SUPPLIER SHALL be accountable for supplying the lifting device complete with all required sets of accessories, such as slings, shackles, eyebolts, etc. necessary for the safe application of the device. Technical documents such as drawings and quality certification SHALL be provided for each component of the lifting device.
Lifting device SHALL be designed if possible for both applications, shipping and SITE erection, and it SHALL ensure that the lifting is carried out in manner that the PACKAGE remain horizontal.
Lifting device and all lifting points applied to the PACKAGE, for example trunnions, necessary for connecting the lifting device, they SHALL be painted with a special colour for immediate identification.
Unless otherwise agreed, the cost for the provision of the lifting device is included in the price of the PURCHASE ORDER.
7.3
DYNAMIC LOADS
PACKING, and contained GOODS, is subject Dynamic loads during handling and transport. The value of the dynamic load (Cd) acting on the packaging is the result by following formula:

PACKING OF GOODS BY CATEGORY
The following requirements are the minimum requirements for suitable packing execution for transportation purpose. The compliance with these minimum requirements does not relieve SUPPLIER from its responsibility of the proper packaging execution. SUPPLIER, on the basis of its own experience and practice SHALL provide any improvements to ensure GOODS protection and preservation during transportation and storage.
8.1
COLUMNS, HEAT EXCHANGERS, PRESSURE VESSELS AND TUBULAR EQUIPMENT
29
Shop-assembled pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchanges including transfer lines for reforming furnaces for ammonia plant, should be skidded with wooden or steel saddles 30, properly shaped and fastened to the piece by metal clamps in order to avoid possible sacks; fastening by wire ropes is forbidden, unless otherwise specified. Timber may be placed in the base of the steel saddles to increase friction between the packages and the ship’s deck.
Saddles SHALL be fastened to the piece in order to allow quick removal and reassembly of the saddle as well. Turnbuckles SHALL be properly tensioned considering possible tension relieving due to wood shrinkage.
Special ocean carriers/heavy lift vessels may require the quantity of saddles31, their dimensions and fastening system for the unit to take into account the effect dynamic forces during navigation. In such a case, detailed drawings and calculations for saddles/fastening systems and the supporting arrangement SHALL be forwarded to PURCHASER for review.
The saddles height SHALL be the lowest possible one. Nozzles, manholes, etc., SHALL be sealed by compatible metal disks (5 mm32) or plywood disks (9 mm4) with gaskets (5 mm4), duly bolted; (fixing by wire or adhesive tape is strictly forbidden).
All parts subject to damage or scratches33 SHALL be properly protected or removed whenever possible.
Wooden boards SHALL be fixed by bolts and nuts. Nails are forbidden. The width of the wooden boards SHALL be of the same size of the base of the saddle.
Removable parts that may have an excessive volume MAY BE requested to be (whenever possible), dismantled and separately packed and prepared for assembly at the SITE.
Taking in consideration the centre of gravity location, lifting points SHALL be properly positioned in order to avoid any possible damage to the item (or parts of it) by lifting ropes, chains or any other lifting device.
The holes of the lifting points SHALL be properly sized (minimum 36 mm diameter) for connection of hooks/shackles for lifting and any other lashing device. Lifting lugs SHALL be properly sized to accommodate lifting ropes.
In case the GOODS SHALL be lifted from the shell, protections of rubber or wood SHALL be provided in correspondence of the lifting points.
In case handling with forklifts is prohibited, all skidded units SHALL be provided with lifting lugs to avoid scratches and damage to the equipment caused by the lifting ropes.

For heat exchangers fitted with expansion joints or bellows, a suspended protection SHALL be used. This protection SHALL be made up of wooded reinforcing, fastened by steel rods (or caged), preventing displacements in any direction.
8.2
COMPLETE PLANT PACKAGES AND MODULES
This chapter includes for example, furnaces and boilers, generating sets, water treatment plant, desalination plant, etc.
Packing SHALL be a rigid structure container/skid as per land and sea transport main requirements34. Module SHALL be sealed with framed wooden side covered with plywood sheeting.
The position of the centre of gravity SHALL be defined by taking into account the internal distribution of the equipment and elements of which the module is made up of.
As a general rule, a slope of 8% SHALL be considered, as well as bumpy road conditions, uneven surfaces, gravelled roads. Due to these, strain and vibrations could be generated into the modules.
All parts and equipment inside a module SHALL be fixed and braced in order to minimize/absorb vibrations to or between them.
Instruments and electrical components (mounted inside modules) must be protected from damages as if they were standalone parts. Installation of them SHALL be properly executed for avoiding any displacements or rotations.
In case it is necessary to lift the PACKAGE with the aid of devices ensuring that the lifting takes place in a balances manner, the lifting device complete with all accessories (shackles, ropes/chain, eye bolts, etc.) must be provided by SUPPLIER with all necessary quality certifications. All llifting equipment SHALL be painted with a special colour for immediate identification. Unless otherwise agreed, the cost for the provision of the lifting device is included in the price of the PURCHASE ORDER.
Design of Modules and Packages SHALL be realized minimizing as much as possible shipping volume. Removable parts that may have an excessive volume MAY BE requested to be (whenever possible), dismantled and separately packed and prepared for assembly at the SITE. All parts subject to damage or scratches35 SHALL be properly protected or removed whenever possible.
The SUPPLIER must provide (at least two months prior to shipment), the transport drawings showing the centre of gravity, spreader beams and any other relevant handling information that FREIGHT FORWARDER, must be aware of.This is in order to properly arrange all necessary for a successful and secure transportation of the module.
8.3
PLATES
Plates are normally be sent to installation SITES without any form of surface treatment unless otherwise specified in the PURCHASE ORDER, in which case the type of treatment required will also be specified.
Plates SHALL be bundled and edge protect with heavy-duty cardboard, the net weight of each bundle SHALL not exceed 5 tons, as per below instructions:
(cid:120) Bundles up to 2 tons total net weight SHALL be made by placing plates on wooden skids.
(cid:120) Bundles up to 5 tons total net weight SHALL be made by U-iron skid structures, unless otherwise agreed.

Plates treated with anti-rust, painted or cladded must be also covered with polyethylene film and handled with care, using hemp ropes, canvas slings or other suitable methods to prevent damage or wear to the coating. Any parts of hoisting machine which will be in contact with painted surfaces must be covered with a suitable material.
Rolled steel plates 36 SHALL be provided with suitable bracing to minimize any deformation/bending during transit. Spacers SHALL be provided between the rolled plates. Plates over two meters diameter SHALL be cut into two more sections in order to reduce their overall dimension and facilitate handling and transport.
Each plate and each structural component must be clearly marked with the specification number, the drawing number and the assembly code number

8.4
AIR COOLERS
8.4.1
Loose parts
Air cooler should be packed in wooden crates enabling to stack identical sized crates in three (3) layers. Lifting and lashing points free for use must be clearly marked.
(cid:120) Air cooler tube bundles SHALL be provided with lifting plates, with support beams bolted to the side walls, enabling to stack same size air coolers at least in three (3) layers. This arrangement SHALL allow the connection, by proper bolting, of more bundles (same width), making up a single packing unit.
(cid:120) Finned surfaces SHALL be protected by plywood sheet (or equivalent) with the purpose to avoid fins damages. SUPPLIER SHALL ensure that finned tubes SHALL be properly separated from each other by application of spacers with the aim to protect the equipment from strains to bumps or bending moments from out-of-balance weight distribution during: transport, loading and unloading operations.
(cid:120) Auxiliary materials and equipment for air coolers (e.g. fans, motors, steel structure/works, etc.) SHALL be packed in accordance with the present Specification, considering standard stackability requirements 37.

8.4.2 Assembled
Assembled air coolers SHALL be packed with their own support steel structure38. The SUPPLIER SHALL protect the finned surfaces of the tube bundles as per above article. After laying plywood sheets on finned tubes surfaces, the SUPPLIER SHALL cover the entire tube bundle with tarpaulin to protect the equipment form seawater and rain. In Assembled case, support structures for assembled air cooler, shall be suitable for Sea, Land and Rail transportation.
8.5
TRANSFORMERS
Transformers MV / LV power up to 3150 KVA (if represented by General Cargo items) SHALL be boxed and will be shipped complete and filled with oil, however, the instrumentation must be removed and packaged separately. The transformer base SHALL be bolted to the PACKAGE by suitable bolting arrangement on the suitable package/transformer load bearing element.
Transformers over 3150 KVA, must be packed as add-on packaging (e.g. non load bearing crates). Fragile parts/components 39 have to be additionally protected. The crate has to be furnished with openings to access the lashing points on the transformer base frame. Self-supporting items must provide adequate clearance for handling.
Radiators and external isolators, if shipped disassembled from the rest of the equipment, have to be packaged in crates.
To be remarked that SUPPLIER has to submit drawings (for approval) including detailing packing, as per Article n. 12.2 of the present Specification.

Machinery category include Pumps, Compressors, Turbines and relative accessories. These GOODS categories SHALL be packed in wooden boxes. In addition, even if already detailed in above Articles of the present Specification, to be remarked that:
(cid:120) Surface protection SHALL be as per Article n. 7 “Internal Packaging”. (cid:120) Threaded connections SHALL be closed by well-greased threaded plugs. (cid:120) All flanged connections SHALL be protected by bolted metal disks and rubber gaskets. (cid:120) The base plate SHALL be bolted to the bottom of the case. (cid:120) All disassembled parts SHALL be identified and packed separately, even if contained in the same
PACKAGE.
(cid:120) Vapour barrier bags SHALL be heat sealed to avoid air filtration.
For machinery exceeding 30 tons, lifting lugs should be provided fixed to the machinery/compressors, protruding from the PACKAGE.
In case it is necessary to lift the PACKAGE with the aid of devices ensuring that the lifting takes place in a balances manner, the lifting device complete with all accessories (shackles, ropes/chain, eye bolts, etc.) must be provided by SUPPLIER with all necessary quality certifications. Unless otherwise agreed, the cost for the provision of the lifting device is included in the price of the PURCHASE ORDER. All lifting equipment SHALL be painted with a special colour for immediate identification.
All mechanical and rotating equipment SHALL be adequately packaged for shipment and prepared for extended unprotected storage at the SITE. Spare parts for these machines SHALL be packed and marked in accordance with applicable reference standard requirements.
To be remarked that SUPPLIER has to submit drawings (for approval) including detailing packing, as per Article n. 12.2 of the present Specification.
8.7
ELECTRICALS
This GOODS category includes (but is not limited to) panels, motors, generators, other electrical equipment, instrumentation and connections. Electricals SHALL be packed in wooden case and protected by a thermo- welded hermetic barrier.

8.7.1
Panels
Electrical panels are particularly susceptible to damage from strains, as a consequence extra preventative measures to protect the GOODS shall be adopted as follows.
Individual packing
a) (cid:120) Reinforce the packing, so the assembled equipment can withstand vibration during transportation. (cid:120) Protect the instrument’s connectors. (cid:120) Fix wiring, piping, lamps, panels and switchboxes applying additional interior bracings. (cid:120) Close openings of any piping. (cid:120) Protect instruments, switches, displays etc. on the front panel.
b) Moisture proof interior packing (cid:120) Wrap the entire panel with the moisture proof barrier material, remove the inside air and heat-seal the

pouch. Desiccating agents have to be applied in sufficient amount. if there are any protruding parts, same have to be wrapped with felt or other cushioning material. These actions shall be provided in order to prevent damage to moisture barrier material.
c) Plug-in instrumentation installed on panels SHALL be properly fastened to the frame. Should such plug- in instrumentation be susceptible to damage during transportation or deterioration during the storage period, they must be removed and packed separately.
d)
Instrumentation, MV and LV Bus Duct SHALL be packed with shock-absorbing material to prevent damage.
e) For material and equipment particularly subject to deterioration due to vibration or shocks (i.e. telemetering and tele-control equipment), the boxes SHALL made up of double bottoms or double casing, supported by shock absorbing rubber or synthetic pads.

Cables 40 SHALL be supplied on wooden reels. Reels SHALL be provided with thermo-retractable caps in order to avoid moisture penetration, especially for cables with mineral paper or hygroscopic insulation. In addition:
(cid:120) Reels should be protected by wood lagging nailed to the out circumference of the reel with no gaps allowed between lagging. Steel bands SHALL be applied to the outer lagging with a stretching tool and secured with steel seals.
(cid:120) Reels must allow handling by forklift therefore must be provided with a wooden frame on the bottom. (cid:120) The minimum diameter of the reels SHALL be twice the minimum bending radius of the cable. (cid:120) The ends of the cable SHALL be sheathed and inserted inside the drum. (cid:120) Wooden reels SHALL be sound and protected by water-repellent paint. Marking SHALL be executed on
metal plates fixed on two sides.
(cid:120) The external surfaces of cables SHALL be peripherally protected with tarred paper and/or cellophane
sheeting.
(cid:120) The end of the cables must be sealed with special caps and SHALL be maintained closed until it will be
used at SITE.
(cid:120) One metal tag stating PACKING LIST with a copy of the packing list inside will be fixed on each reel.

8.7.3 Cables Trays
Cable trays SHALL be packed in cases or crates.
(cid:120) These GOODS are generally shipped with the aid of ocean containers therefore the PACKAGE will be
supplied with maximum length of 5.8 m. (for 20’ Dry Van containers) or 11.8 m. (for 40’ Dry Van).
(cid:120) The use of containers doesn’t relieve SUPPLIER to provide seaworthy packing.
8.8
PIPING
8.8.1 Carbon steel, alloy steel, galvanized pipes and externally-coated41 piping
“Carbon steel” and “stainless steel” pipes materials must always be packed separate from each other. In order to protect the bevelling, all the bevelled ends SHALL be covered with plastic caps 42. “Not recessed” caps are not allowed.
(cid:120) Pipes up to ½” diameter SHALL be packed in seaworthy crates with a maximum weight of 1,5 ton and a
maximum length of 11,8 meters (allowing the use of 40’ Dry Van containers).

(cid:120) Pipes from ½“ to 6” SHALL be packed in bundles with a maximum length of 11,8 meters, allowing the use of 40’ Dry Van containers. These weight of the bundles SHALL not exceeding 1,5 ton and pipes SHALL be of the same diameter and similar length. Bundles SHALL be equipped with a sufficient number of steel bands in order to make the PACKAGE, firm and stable.
(cid:120) Pipes with a diameter over than 6” (included) SHALL be shipped loose, with a maximum length of 11,8
meters, allowing the use of 40’ Dry Van containers.
Bevelled ends of pipes over 38 in. diameter SHALL be protected by Aluminium-Rings or wooden padding. Pipes supplied with double random length (DLR) will be of 11,8 m maximum.Pipes supplied with single random length (SRL) will be of 5,8 m maximum.
In case of bundled pipes, GOODS shall be loaded from the top into open top containers, the slings used for strapping during packing must not be removed after stuffing into containers and must remain inside to facilitate stripping operations at destination.
Pipes loaded in bundles SHALL be individually marked with at least the heat number, the number of the bundle and the number of the pipe, as referred in the Master Packing List for Bundles.
Nesting of tubes is not permitted.

Externally-coated or bituminized pipes included in a bundle SHALL be protected by vegetable or synthetic fibre cord, in order to avoid direct contact between the metal strap or the fastening elements and the surface of the pipe. Fibre slings SHALL be used instead of wire ropes. If transported loose, pipes SHALL be provided with plastic or rubber rings, in order to avoid damage to the coating.
8.8.2
Stainless steel, clad, cast iron, aluminum and plastic pipes

(cid:120) Stainless steel pipes SHALL be crated or boxed and also be covered by polyethylene plastic to protect
material from rainwater or splashes.
(cid:120) Cemented pipes SHALL be transported loose; they SHALL be handled with particular care (use of forklift is forbidden and fibre sling SHALL be used instead of wire ropes).The maximum distance between the supporting or lifting points SHALL be 1,8 meters to avoid bending. Each support SHALL be lined with rubber in order to absorb any shock during transport. Maximum stacking height SHALL be 1,2 metres. (cid:120) Each loose pipe SHALL be marked according to the marking instructions referred in these guidelines. 8.8.3
Flanges, Fitting, Valves
Different nature of GOODS/types/sizes shall be packed separately to each other’s.
Up to DN 150, these GOODS SHALL be packed in seaworthy stackable cases.
Over DN 150, these MAY BE packed in crates. The use of pallets as PACKAGE (or wooden skid, as per below pictures) SHALL be agreed with PURCHASER.
In any case, stackability43 requirements SHALL be observed and be advised and detailed in the packing list.

Although the size of the cases must be adjusted to the GOODS packed inside, the following sizes SHALL be used as a general rule, in order to optimize ISO containers capacity. (cid:120) Length 1200 mm x width 1000 mm. Overfilling of flanges, fitting, valves in boxes without proper fixing may compress and subsequently break the package walls. In order to prevent this, a maximum height of 0,8 m MAY BE considered as limit for packing units filling. Boxes construction SHALL allow the use of forklift. GOODS SHALL be corrosion protected by special heavy- duty grease. Contact surfaces of flanges and flanged fittings SHALL be duly protected to avoid mechanical damage.

Prefabricated Piping
Prefabricated piping SHALL be packed in crates or, if agreed, in a S.O.C. (Shipper Owned Container) as per Article n. 6.2 of the present Specification. Each shipment SHALL include all prefabricated parts belonging to specific isometric drawing(s).

Piping spools with total net weight not exceeding 500 kg and suitable dimensions, SHALL shipped in Cases. Piping spools with the total net weight exceeding 500 kg, or dimensions larger than 1200 x 1000 mm SHALL be packed in crates. Piping spools MAY BE also packed onto individually designed pallets/wooden skids (i.e. shipping saddles) with a suitable capacity but SUPPLIER SHALL agree this packaging solution with PURCHASER.
8.9
STEEL STRUCTURES
Steel structures include GOODS as, beams, ladders, handrails, any steelwork prefabricated items. These SHALL be packed to facilitate handling operations, and stackability44.
Depending on the method of transportation adopted, the packaging type SHALL be agreed with PURCHASER.
All items will have an inscription in indelible ink showing the reference numbers of the assembly drawings.
As general rules, the following guidelines are to be considered for PACKAGE execution:
Structural beams SHALL be positioned on skids (or pallets) for easy handling and in order to optimize the shipping volume. Transversal reinforcement elements have to be applied between the layers for strengthening the stack and protect the beams (including coating if any). PVC protectors SHALL be applied on the contact point and steel strap passages when fixing the stack. The overall bundle sizes SHALL allow the positioning of them into containers.

The choice of the method of packing for Ladders and handrails depend on the shipping method agreed with PURCHASER. In case of container shipping, regardless of which are shipper owned (S.O.C.) or carrier owned container (C.O.C.)45, ladders and handrails SHALL be packed in standard pallets or individually designed wooden skid corresponding to the structure sizes, suitable for lifting with fork-lifts or by rope for loading into containers. Transversal reinforcement elements between the various pieces have to be applied for safeguarding the material and improving the package stability. Stairs with safeguard, lightweight and deformable items, have to be packed on individually designed skids/pallets to protect the material from deformation. The stack must be fixed with steel strapping. In case of conventional shipping, as break bulk, the aforesaid materials are to be packed in wooden crates.
8.10
VEHICLES
The following protective measures SHALL be taken before packing of vehicles:
- Minimize the liquids (fuel, cooling water and lubricating oil).
- Disconnect the battery.
- Remove all accessories and packing them separately.
- Securely fasten accessories to the operator’s seat wherever possible.
- Remove spare tyres.
- Grease properly the axles.
- Glass parts must be protected by plywood or other screening material in order to avoid handling
damages.
8.11 WELDING ELECTRODES
Welding electrodes SHALL be contained in hermetically soldered metallic boxes. These boxes shall be absolutely water and moisture proof and packed in wooden cases.
8.12
REFRACTORY BRICKS AND ELEMENT
Refractory bricks SHALL be packaged in three-layer paper bags wrapped in polyethylene bags and fastened tightly onto pallets.
8.13
MINERAL WOOL / FOAM GLASS
Unless otherwise agreed, mineral wool SHALL be packed in double polyethylene bags, fastened onto the pallets or packed in cases for long term preservation. Foam glass SHALL be packed in three-layer cardboard boxes lined with polyethylene wrapping and fastened onto pallets, or packed in cases for long term conservation.

HAZARDOUS GOODS, CHEMICAL PRODUCTS Y-CATALYSTS
Regardless of the hazardous nature, these materials may be packed in bags protected by polyethylene sheeting or in steel drums. These drums SHALL be:
- Palletized to facilitate the handling.
- Wrapped in heat shrinkable film.
- Strapped with metal or plastic straps. Chemical products SHALL be packed according to their compatibility with other chemicals. It is recommended that hazardous materials SHALL be packed in small volumes to enable partial deliveries.
Local laws, international regulations such as IMDG, ADR, IATA, RID regulates the transportation of dangerous GOODS. Current regulations and ordinances enacted by the respective carriers governs the packing and transportation of dangerous GOODS. GOODS classified as hazardous material (e.g. paints, gas bottles, chemicals, or similar) must be packed, labelled and marked in accordance with IMO/ADR/IATA regulation. Hazardous GOODS or parts contained in any minimum supply must be packed separately in accordance with the above mentioned regulations. In addition SHALL be handled as a single shipment being identified on a separate packing list and MSDS46 to be supplied to PURCHASER.
8.14.1 Lubricants
Lubricants SHALL be shipped in 220 litres drums. Steel drums must be duly fastened onto pallets to facilitate the handling.
8.15
RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS
Instruments, lighting-rods (etc.), containing a specific activity of more than 74 KBq (0,002 MCI/g) are classified as radioactive. Radioactive materials must be sealed in leaded safes and packed in wooden cases. Packing, labelling and marking SHALL be according to IATA/IMO/ADR regulation, depending on the method of transport.
8.16
PPE (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT)
This is extremely important as leaving PPE lying around increases the risk of parts deteriorating by exposure to dirt, oil, UV rays, sunlight etc. PPE must be stored according to the manufacturer’s instructions and packed in cases sealed with aluminium foil and desiccants.
8.17
BOP (BLOW OUT PREVENTER)
Item in this category requires a special handling and long term planning. Lifting and lashing points SHALL be provided to secure the load during handling and transport. These items may need special skids (tailor made) on the basis of weight distribution (maximum allowable load considered 20 tons/sqm).
SHIPPING DOCUMENTATION
Shipping documents (related to packing) SHALL show the transport descriptions of the GOODS such as shipping configuration of the items, technical description, number of items contained within any PACKAGE, dimensions and weights for each numbered package and any other specific requirement (i.e. P.O. line item weight, etc.). If required stackability47 properties of the GOODS shall be clearly shown.

9.1
PACKING LISTS
Packing list have to be placed in waterproof envelope and securely fixed to the external surface of each package protected by plastic or aluminium cover. This cover will be clearly marked “PACKING LIST”, with waterproof ink. Typical packing to be checked list as per Attachment B at the present Specification.
9.2
TRANSPORT DRAWINGS
In case of Oversize/Overweight items, the SUPPLIER SHALL submit packing, transportation and lifting drawings, at least 12 weeks prior to shipment, showing (as minimum requirement):

PACKING INSPECTION
10.1
GENERAL
The instructions of packing inspection stated hereunder SHALL be applicable to the GOODS under the PURCHASE ORDER. Packing inspections SHALL be made by the PURCHASER’s appointed representative inspector. Inspection SHALL be extended to a visual, dimensional, quantity check of GOODS, etc. The SUPPLIER SHALL allow free access and support to personnel and required equipment to the PURCHASER’s inspector at all times. In case of an inspection, all GOODS and packages are to be placed accessible and consolidated for effective inspection.

10.2
REPORTING
When the inspection is finished, the SUPPLIER SHALL immediately furnish a report with the following minimum requirements:
(cid:120) The SUPPLIER SHALL take photographs, showing the main shipping mark, exterior and interior views of packages and how the equipment or machines are secured on the load bearing elements per each package.
(cid:120) Photographs SHALL to be submitted to the PURCHASER electronically by e-mail. (cid:120) Modification of PACKAGE. If the PURCHASER or its appointed inspector identifies packing defects, the SUPPLIER SHALL immediately correct the defect(s) on his own responsibility and expenses, and SHALL inform PURCHASER about the results of the corrective actions carried out. In case of any damage or expenses due to the delay of a shipment due to corrective actions, the SUPPLIER SHALL be accountable for the damages or expenses in full.
MARKING INSTRUCTIONS
The SUPPLIER is required to properly mark each package providing each package details in the “Final Packing List”.
Labels attached to the GOODS SHALL be in English language. If specifically requested in the PURCHASE ORDER, the writing may also be bilingual, another language besides English. All individual items, included in a single packing unit, SHALL be marked separately. The marking SHALL be stencilled on two sides (long sides), and one on the top end in clear text , anyway according to the box dimensions.
If the package does not have space enough to apply the shipping marks, metal labels with full shipping marks of suitable size, SHALL be fixed firmly to the package. The colour to be used SHALL contrast with the package surface. Black or white paint is recommended to be used as standard practice. The use of yellow or red paint is not allowed.
All items48, SHALL be supplied fully marked and tagged by the SUPPLIER with the PO number, item number, item code number and cast/heat numbering, in accordance with project requirements/material specifications.
All the GOODS have to be clearly marked with handling marks, such as slinging points the centre of gravity (CG) on all sides, and any other applicable handling mark. Correct marking features are extremely important for Oversize/Overweight cargo, with particular regards to Pressure Vessel and Heat Exchangers. Marking symbols shall be used as per shown in the Attachment E at the present Specification.

Hazardous, dangerous or restricted material have to be marked according the applicable international standard. Packages containing dangerous GOODS SHALL be marked on (at least) two sides with appropriate labels in conformity with IMDG/IATA regulations. All hazardous GOODS SHALL be identified by the appropriate hazardous class and technical (or proper) shipping name.
Spares parts must be clearly marked as spare parts and SHALL not be included with main equipment.
Bundles and loose items which are not suitable for application of shipping marks directly onto the bundles or pieces must be supplied with indestructible labels or boards bearing the shipping mark. Labels or boards are to be tied firmly to the package with stainless steel wire.
Metal or other weatherproof tags SHALL be clearly legible and must invariably be affixed to bundles and single units at both ends. Linen, paper or light cardboard tags are definitely not allowed.
Precautionary information such as handling marks must be stencilled on each package to indicate proper handling and storage practices.
STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
The SUPPLIER’s storage recommendations SHALL be marked on each package and indicated on the packing list.
