INTRODUCTION

The ADNOC Ruwais LNG Project is a two train, near net-zero electrically driven LNG facility, targeting international markets. The feed gas for the project is supplied from the Habshan Gas Processing Plant via a new export gas pipeline. The plant will have two 4.8 MTPA (nominal capacity) electric driven LNG Trains with associated LNG storage/marine export facilities and utilities.

Figure 1 – Project Context

The ADNOC Ruwais LNG Project foresees the following main components at the facility:

• Onshore LNG Liquefaction facilities for 2 x 4.8 MTPA electrically driven LNG Trains (9.6MTPA total)

• Common facilities including inlet receiving facilities, LNG storage, BOG handling, flare, refrigerant

storage and support buildings.

• Utilities to support the facilities including import power from the national grid.

• Marine facilities for LNG export and bunkering.

Scope of the Document

This document provides an Index of all Piping Material Classes to be used in Ruwais LNG project. Each Piping class within this Index is accompanied with information regarding but not limited to: Base material specified, applicable Corrosion Allowance, Class Rating, Pressure and Temperature, applicable design code, applicable services, connection details, etc.

Additional general technical details have been added to this document in order to provide relevant details applicable to materials limitations and Piping classes specificities.

3.1

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

BASE CODE

When the code is not indicated (on the piping Classes Summary), ASME B31.3 is the applicable code by default, with the exception of Pipeline Piping Class, for which applicable code is ASME B31.8.

Piping systems in this specification are categorized as Normal Fluid Service in accordance with the applicable code for pressure piping, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, unless indicated in the individual Piping Class.

MATERIALS

Piping materials and limitations (pressure, temperature, diameter,…) are shown on detailed piping classes.

The pressure and temperature given in each piping class are the design limitations and shall not be exceeded. All piping components and pipe wall thickness shown in detailed piping classes are based on these limits.

Base material selected for each piping class at negative values of Temperature, has been chosen in accordance with criteria defined by ASME B31.3, Section 323.2.2 and Table 323.2.2.

As the result of ASME B31.3 sections indicated above for the evaluation of Lower Temperature Limits for Listed Materials, as well as for CONTRACTOR’s experience with regards to this subject, following actions are applied to Piping Class detailed specifications in order to guarantee suitability of selected materials: Special Design of Valves, Impact Test requirements, delivery condition of Plates, type of Examination required for welds, Cryogenic Pressure Test of valves, among others.

Refer to Piping Class detailed and Job Specification of Supply of Piping components (Pipes, fittings, Flanges and Valves) for further details.

5.0

POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT (PWHT)

Unless otherwise specified, PWHT shall be in accordance with ASME B31.3 ASME B31.8 whenever applicable, based on material groupings and thickness ranges.

When PWHT is specified in individual piping class, PWHT is to be performed for all thicknesses.

Piping Material class Names are composed of 4 or 5 digits, information provided by each digit within these designations has been indicated below.

7.1

PIPING CLASSES PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE LIMITATIONS

Pressure-Temperature Curves

Single or multiple Design Pressure and Temperature Curves may be applicable to each Piping Class, such curves have been named as “PT-X”, while the X indicates the sequence number for each curve (1,2,3, etc.).

In Appendix 1, Piping Class Design Conditions column, all curves and respective P-T limitations are indicated.

In Appendix 2, detailed ranges of Size, Temperature and Pressure values are provided for each curve and Piping Class. If certain couple of P/T is intended to be used for a given Piping Class, Interpolation method can be used to obtain the maximum allowable Pressure for a given temperature, provided this temperature does not exceed maximum temperature listed for the curve been evaluated, if the temperature exceeds the maximum temperature provided for a certain PT curve, extrapolation of values is NOT permitted without proper verification of Piping Material team.

END-CONNECTIONS

End Connection of Piping Components shall be as defined in Appendix 1, below considerations apply:

When Threaded Connections in Metallic Piping is not specified by default, threaded joints are permitted only at the outlet of vent and drain valves, hydrostatic connections, outlet instrument take-off valves, and to match equipment (Except for R300 Piping class).

For Piping Class R300 (Pipeline) all components are Butt-Weld ended.

In Cryogenic Services, Valves shall be normally Socket Weld or Butt-Weld Ended depending on Bore size except for cases indicated below:

• Dual Plate Check Valves (Except when indicated as welded in particular cases)

• When Flanged Connection is required to Match an Equipment

• When specifically indicated in P&ID’s.

• When required for a Valve due to maintenance purposes.

NONMETALLIC COMPONENTS

HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE)

HPDE pipe and pipe components shall be manufactured and supplied according to Manufacturer recommendations and as per “Specification for High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Piping”: RLNG-000-PI- SP-1005.

9.2

CHLORINATED POLY VINYL CHLORIDE (CPVC)

Fabrication of PVC or CPVC plastic pipe and components shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and “Job Specification for Supply for CPVC Pipes and Piping Components” : RLNG-000-PI-SP- 5103.

9.3

FIBER REINFORCED PLASTICS (FRP)

Fiber Reinforced Plastic Pipes FRP and Fittings shall be manufactured and supplied according to Manufacturer recommendations and as per “Specification for Fiber Reinforced Plastic Pipes FRP and Fittings”: RLNG-000-PI-SP-XXXX (Hold 6).

10.0 BOLTS AND GASKETS

Bolts and gaskets shall be fabricated as per Specification for Bolts & Gasket (RLNG-000-PI-SP-1004), as per Piping Class detailed specifications.

Where PTFE Coated is specified, Low alloy and Stainless steel nuts and bolts shall coated with Whitford Xylan 1424 with 1 – 1.5 mil (25 – 38 microns) thick.

3- Supply and Instalation shall be as per “Specification for Fiber Reinforced Plastic Pipes FRP and Fittings”, (Hold 6)

4- Gaskets are not required at joints between Lined Valve and Pipe RF/FF Flange.

NOTES (Specific)

01- Examination shall be in accordance with “Specification for Welding and NDE of Pressure Vessels and Heat Exchangers”, refer to document number: 215122C-000-JSS-6300-0002.

02- When Valves are specified as cavity relief type (applicable to Gate and Ball Valves); they shall be installed with the cavity vent (as indicated on the valve) on the high-pressure side. The high-pressure side shall be indicated on the P&ID. Cavity Pressure Relief Valves are unidirectional type of valves.

03- Flat-face flanges shall be provided adjacent to flat-face equipment nozzles & flange isolation gasket.

04- Washers shall be used on back side of flanges.

05- Valve with Flanged Ends

06- Full-face gaskets shall be used at flat-faced flanges.

07- The Non-Extended Bonnet valves should be used for specific cases like PSV isolation, Vaporizer outlet, etc., only if indicated on the P&ID. Valves can be installed with stem position more than 45 degree from the vertical, and in vertical lines.

08- Metallic piping shall be used for transition to aboveground and shall be done using flanged joints in underground horizontal section just before the riser.

09- Metallic Spool used for the transition between Underground Network and Aboveground Network shall be:

  • Epoxy lined with Coating Type B-1, as per RLNG-000-MT-SP-2301 (SPECIFICATION FOR PROTECTIVE COATING OF EQUIPMENT, PIPING & STRUCTURES) (Hold 5)

  • Externally protected with Coating System A-6 as per RLNG-000-MT-SP-2301 (SPECIFICATION FOR PROTECTIVE COATING OF EQUIPMENT, PIPING & STRUCTURES)

10- Up to 2”, Pipes and Fittings shall be Galvanized by Manufacturer. For 3” and above, Pipe spools shall be flanged, shop fabrication shall be maximized and all spools shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication.

11- Up to 1,5”, Pipes and Fittings shall be Galvanized by Manf. For 2” and above Pipes and Fittings, Pipe spools shall be flanged, shop fabrication shall be maximized and all spools shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication.

12- Metallic items shall be epoxy coated as per SPECIFICATION FOR PROTECTIVE COATING OF EQUIPMENT, PIPING & STRUCTURES: RLNG-000-MT-SP-2301

13- Flanged Components within specifications T191, T19A, N191C, and N19AC

  • In case of flanged component required in T191, T19A, N191C and N19AC, minimum rating shall be CL. 300. Flanged components with CL. 150 are forbidden.

  • Pressure temperature shall still comply to Pressure / Temperature of the piping class.

14- Manual Block Valves

  • Recommended Valve Selection shall be considered only for main Line Pipe.

  • For Instrument connections, Drains and Vents, Ball or Gate Valves can be selected based on functionality, End Connection could differ.

  • Ball Valves can be selected instead of Gate or Butterfly valves, when Bore Size or Tightness requirements cannot be fulfilled by recommended type.

  • For Ball Valves, Soft Seats limitations shall be taken into account when Notes 17 and 18 apply.

15- Refer to Appendix 2, where detailed Pressure and Temperature Limitations for each Piping Class and Size Ranges have been specified

16- Full Vacuum Condition considered for the Wall Thickness Calculation under External Pressure for the Range of Size indicated.

17- Only Metal seated Ball Valves to be selected for design temperatures above 200°C

18- Only Metal seated Ball Valves to be selected for design temperature above 185°C

19- “NO” means that PWHT shall be applied in accordance with ASME B31.3/ ASME B31.8, whenever applicable. “YES” means PWHT shall performed for all Thickness.

20- Butterfly Valves within this specification are specified as High Performance Butterfly Valves, which have a preferred High Pressure Side.
