PURPOSE
This document addresses the technical requirement for the instrumentation equipment numbering
intended for the facilities to be installed for the EPC phase of the project “REALISATION EN EPC

1.1 Project Description
In order to fulfil its domestic needs in Linear-Alkyl-Benzene (LAB) used for the production of detergents and possibly export the excess to the international market, Sonatrach plans to build a new LAB production complex in Skikda (Algeria). The new complex will produce 100,000 tons of LAB per year and will be installed in the existing industrial zone of Skikda. Skikda is a coastal town located 350 km east of Algeri, Algeria.

The LAB project includes the following installations located on four different sites:
• New LAB complex (DEV1 area):
The new LAB complex will include the following three process units for the production of N- Paraffins: ✓ ✓ ✓
(U-100) Prefractionation of Kerosene feedstock, (U-200) Kerosene Hydrotreating to remove sulfur, nitrogen and aromatics contaminants, (U-300) Molex unit to extract N-paraffins through adsorption.
LAB is then produced from N-Paraffins in the following four units: ✓ ✓ ✓ ✓
(U-400) Pacol unit carrying out the dehydrogenation of n-paraffins to n-olefins, (U-500) Define unit carrying out the selective hydrogenation of di-olefins to n-olefins, (U-600) PEP unit removing the aromatics from the Pacol outlet stream, (U-700) Detal-Plus unit making alkylation of benzene with linear olefins to produce linear- alkyl-benzene LAB and separating the HAB by-product.
Utilities units consists of the following:

INSTRUMENT NUMBERING
4.1 LAB Complex
4.1.1 Instrument Numbering
The instruments will be tagged as follows:
Basic format:
AAA-BBBBB-CCCDD
where:
• AAA: Unit/Section number, which the instrument belongs to (3 digits, in accordance with the unit tables of UNIT NUMBERING. identification has more than 3 digits, only the first 3 digits are used for this purpose: e.g. PORT shall be POR). Refer Table 1, Table 2, Table 3 & Table 4 below. For F&G and Telecom devices inside buildings “AAA” will be 151 for PBs, 152 for SPBs, 153 for NPBs. For PBs (Process Building), SPBs (Services to Process Building) and NPBs (Non Process Building) refer Table 6 below.
In case
• BBBBB: no. 5 uppercase letters max. to identify (according to ISA standard) a
process variable and function.
• CCC: no. 3 digits max. (a number of 3 digits) to identify a sequential number. • DD:
no. 2 uppercase letter as suffix where necessary
Examples:
• 950-PT-001 Pressure Transmitter included in Unit/section 950 • 870-LAH-001 High Level Alarm included in Unit/section 870 • 820-LT-001 and 820-LT-002 Level Transmitter included in Unit/section 820 and associated to 2 pieces of equipment (for instance 2 pressure vessels numbered 820-D-001A and 820-D-001B)
The limit switches and the position transmitters installed on a valve will be prefixed by the process variable of the loop associated to the valve, e.g. FZSO-100 installed on FV-100, LZT-101 installed on LV-101. The solenoid valves installed on a valve will be tagged with the first-letter equal to the process variable of the valve, e.g. FXY-100 installed on FV-100; in fact, both instruments belong to loop F-100.
Note : The numbering will go further if there are two equipment in parallel and a triple stitching for voting. Example : For an equipment named 820-D-001A (with 820-D-001B in parallel)
- The LG will be tagged 820-LG-001 and 820-LG-002 respectively.
- The LT connected to the DCS will be 820-LT-002 and 820-LT-003 respectively.
- The 3 transmitters connected to the ESD will be tagged: 820-LT-003A, 820-LT-003B,
820-LT-003C and 820-LT-004A, 820-LT-004B, 820-LT-004C respectively.

Instrument Loop No: AAA-YY-XXXZZ Where, AAA= Unit Identifier (three digits, in accordance with Table 1, Table 2, Table 3 & Table 4) YY= Loop Identification (refer below description) XXX = Loop Sequence Number (refer below description) ZZ = Suffix (refer below description)
YY: Loop identification The Loop identification shall be selected according to the function. (Measured or initiating variable i.e first letter of “Functional Identification” from Instrument Tag Number) Loop Sequence Number: The loop Sequence number of an instrument shall use a number assigned to the loop of which the instrument is a part. All instruments or functions within a particular loop shall share the same number. A sequential numbering system shall be used to designate loops within the same system.
ZZ: Suffix code is a 1—2-character capital letter code (If required).
Example for Instrument Loop Numbering: 100-FO-001 100-PS-001 100-T-005 100-M-003
For F&G instruments, loop number for gas detectors: example GDF will be GF, GDO will be GO, GDT will be GT, GDH will be GH to avoid duplication.

INSTRUMENT CABLE NUMBERING
8.1 Cable from Instrument to JB (Branch Cable)/Direct Run Cable
Cable numbers for field instruments, from JB or direct run to marshalling cabinets, take whole instrument tag numbers and add prefix C for signal cable and P for power cable. In the case of Fire & Gas detectors, interfield device cables use the tag number of the next device along the loop.

TELECOM CABLE NUMBERING:
9.1 Multicore cable Number
Multicore cable to junction boxes takes a JB number less the prefix ‘J’, with A, B, C, etc. as the suffix to identify a cable in the JB and the cabinet number. For inter-loop device cables use the tag number of the next device along the loop. For the last looping JB in the loop, Suffix “A” denotes cable from previous JB and Suffix “B” denotes the return path to the cabinet.

Cable numbers for telecom device, from JB or direct run to telecom cabinets, take whole device tag number and add prefix C for signal cable and P for power cable. The numbering of Motor Signals shall be as follows:

Where:
- AAA = Unit/Section Number (three digits, in accordance with Table 1, Table 2, Table 3 &
Table 4)

BBBBB = The string (minimum 2 letters, maximum 5 letters) is defined in accordance with the functional designation of motor signals as per motor typicals shown on the P&ID Legend sheets.

X = Prefix is used to discriminate motor is associated with Pump, Mixer, Agitator, Rotary
Feeder, Compressor etc. P = Pump, M = Mixer, A = Agitator, R = Rotary Feeder, K = Compressor, F = Fan
- NNN = The sequential number is coded with 3 digits and it is same as equipment number.
- AA = The discrimination code is used to identify multiple items like equipment’s in parallel or
in series.
Example: Motor start command digital output from DCS to MCC on legend P&ID 1CD1673A-8820-25-0000- 0001 for pump motor 860-P-001A will be tagged as 860-XYR-P001A.
